Jenesis J. Ramirez
Jenesis J. Ramirez currently serves as Program Manager for the Office of Engagement. In her role she manages key external partnerships for the university, including Life Sciences South Florida and the City of Miami Beach, in addition to serving as a key collaborator in Veterans and Military Affairs initiatives.
In addition to serving FIU Engagement, Jenesis is a PhD candidate at University of Pittsburgh's School of Education, within the Social and Comparative Analysis in Education program. Her dissertation research focuses on Latinas’ educational experiences, their networks of women, and the intersecting influences of race, gender, family, and institutional climates on Latinas’ personal, professional, and academic journeys. Broadly, her research interest is on issues of gender and race equity in higher education, specifically related to the experiences of the Latina/o/x population. Jenesis approaches her scholarship from a Latina feminist theoretical and epistemological lens. As a higher education practitioner, Jenesis approaches her work from a similar philosophical lens, focusing not only immediate and tangible initiatives and partnerships, but considering how those initiatives and partnerships contribute to community uplift through increased educational opportunities, equity, and the promotion of socio-economic well-being.
As a qualitative researcher who has collaborated on multi-case institutional level studies examining the histories, cultures, and student outcomes at Hispanic Serving Institutions, Jenesis is honored to serve FIU as a practitioner. Grounded in the spirit of reciprocity, Jenesis is committed to advancing the FIU and Office of Engagement mission to cultivate and nourish partnerships towards the enrichment of both university and community.
