Althea (Vicki) Silvera
Vicki Silvera is head of the Special Collections Department for the University Libraries at FIU and is also the university’s archivist. She also serves as the curator of the Gallery in the Green Library.
During her 20+ years at FIU, Vicki has built the library’s special collection with its focus on the Caribbean, Miami, and the Florida Everglades through purchases and generous donations from members of the South Florida community. The University Archives is the repository of the records of FIU and include the manuscripts and papers of Ralph Renick, Jack Gordon, historians Levi Marrero and Dr. William Straight, and the South Florida Nursing Archives.
Vicki has participated in Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ programs on selecting and introducing Caribbean literature into the curriculum and volunteered with the Miami International Book Fair and with the Broward County libraries. At present she is the Archivist for the Association of Caribbean Women Writers and Scholars.
