Cecile Houry, PhD

Cecile HouryInstructor and Fellow, Director of Student Programs. Cecile Houry was born and raised in France. She has a Master's degree in History from the University of Miami and earned her doctorate in history in May 2011 from the same institution. Her main interests include sports history and gender studies. Her dissertation focused on American women and the modern summer Olympic Games, looking at the obstacles women encountered in their struggle for participation and equality in that global sporting event. She is in charge of Student Programs for the Honors College, including the partnership with the city of Sweetwater, the Study Abroad Programs, the Honors College lecture series, and all student organizations. Houry also teaches classes for the Honors College, including First Year Experience, the Honors Leadership Class, and the First Year Seminar, Origin of Ideas & the Idea of Origins.
