Mary Helen Hayden, EdD

Mary Helen HaydenMary Helen Hayden is the Associate Director of the School of Social Work at FIU and has been a faculty member since 1977.  She also serves as the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for the School.  She holds a doctorate in Higher Education and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Florida. 

Dr. Hayden teaches practice courses including social work with families, group work, diversity and self-awareness.  She developed a stand-alone service-learning course for FIU and serves on the advisory board of the University’s Center for Leadership and Service.  She has won numerous University awards including three University Teaching Awards and the Academic Partner of the Year (2007) award from the Division of Student Affairs.  She is the faculty advisor to the Student Social Work Association and to Phi Alpha Honor Society, the national social work honor society. 

Dr. Hayden’s research interests include service learning, social group work including team building skills and diversity issues.  She has assisted in the development of the inter-disciplinary student teams making home visits as part of FIU’s Herbert Wertheim’s College of Medicine Neighborhood HELPprogram.

She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Camillus House and Camillus Health Concern, programs serving the homeless.
