Divina Grossman, Vice President |
Divina Grossman, PhD, RN, ARNP, FAAN is the Founding Vice President of Engagement at Florida International University. She is the immediate past Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and previously, the Dean of the School of Nursing at FIU.
Dr. Grossman established the Office of Engagement to provide leadership in implementing the FIU vision as a “public research university that is locally and globally engaged”. Since her appointment as Vice President, she has successfully led FIU’s Carnegie Community Engagement classification; the development of major university partnerships including Project ACCESS (Achieving Community Collaboration in Education and Student Success) with Miami Dade County Public Schools; Life Sciences South Florida, a public-private collaborative initiative to develop an industry cluster in South Florida focusing on life sciences and biotechnology; Education Effect, a $1 million project funded by the JP Morgan Chase Foundation to develop a university-assisted community school at Miami Northwestern High School in Liberty City; the development of the Florida Power and Light Customer Care Center and Internship Program; significant expansion of university-wide internship programs with corporations, community organizations, public and private agencies; and implementation of a service learning initiative; among others.
As Dean, she spearheaded the growth and expansion of manifold new academic programs in Nursing and Health Sciences, created multi-institutional partnerships with community and state colleges, universities, hospital corporations and foundations; fundraised approximately $12 million for scholarships, laboratory and equipment, and faculty support, and multiplied seven-fold the College endowment; significantly increased faculty research grantsmanship and research funding; collaborated in the development of the new FIU College of Medicine and the Academic Health Center and the interprofessional, community-based curriculum for Neighborhood HELP; and completed the new $34 million, Leed Silver-certified building for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Dr. Grossman is the current Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Kendall Regional Medical Center, incoming Board Chairwoman of the Health Foundation of South Florida, Board Member of the Miami Foundation, Editorial Board member of the American Journal of Nursing, Steering Committee member of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities’ Urban Serving Universities (USU), and a member of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s National Advisory Council for the Nurse Faculty Scholars Program. She was featured in Miami Today’s Book of Leaders 2006. She was the Past Chair of the Florida Association of Colleges of Nursing, Board Member of the American Academy of Nursing and Chair of the AAN’s Health Disparities Task Force, President of the Florida League for Nursing, Chairperson of the Florida Nurses Association Task Force on Cultural Diversity, Chairperson of the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Council of Medical Surgical Nursing Practice, and was the ANA Representative to the United States Pharmacopeia.
For her multifarious achievements, she received Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing, the Ada Sue Hinshaw Award from the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research, American Red Cross Women’s Spectrum Award for Health Care, Businesswoman of the Year Award from the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, Jessie Trice Heroes Award for Health Care Leadership from Health Choice Network, Mary Cash Award for Outstanding Contributions to Cultural Diversity from the Florida Nurses Association (FNA), and the FNA Nurse Educator of the Year Award, and the Thomasian Award for Nursing Education.
Dr. Grossman earned a B.S. in Nursing cum laude from the University of Santo Tomas (Philippines), M.S. in Nursing from the University of Miami, and a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
