Luther Brewster, PhD

Luther BrewsterDr. Brewster’s work focuses on the identification and correction of health risks created by programs, policies and projects that typically are not viewed as having a relationship to health. Prior to joining FIU’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Dr. Brewster consulted on numerous community development projects, including but not limited to the expansion of the 125th Street business district in Harlem, New York and the Arsenal, F.C. Emirates Stadium, and a housing regeneration project in London, England. He has a consistent track record of implementing grassroots strategies to address community concerns, stressing community participation and equitable solutions. Dr. Brewster is co-founder of the Historic Overtown Public Health Empowerment (HOPE) Collaborative. Dr. Brewster will oversee the community-based components of Medicine &Society and serve as the liaison to the community. Dr. Brewster received his Ph.D. in Health Promotion and Behavior from The University of Georgia.
